Guilt By Association?

I’m sure the whole world’s wondering what exactly Bristol Palin does while not practicing not falling down on Dancing With the Stars. Aside from thanking all of her Mom’s Teabagger fans for their votes on her official Facebook Page” (Vote for Bristol the Pistol!) and countless phone calls to her Wasilla drinking buddies, she was seen yesterday walking the streets of Hollywood with what appears to be one of, if not the, Best of her BFF’s. A young woman named April Morlock.

Now, you might ask, “Who the hell is April Morlock?” April Morlock is a family friend of the Palin’s from Wasilla, Alaska. She’s remained a family friend even after Bristol’s younger sister Willow and her buddies, otherwise known as the Colony Girls, broke into and trashed a home owned by Morlock’s Wasilla family late last year, ostensibly to score some alcohol for a drunken party. (Note: Willow Palin was 15 years old at the time.)

Why should one care? Seems like the Morlock family has it’s own little sordid history…

Morlock’s brother, you see, is the infamous  Cpl. Jeremy Morlock, now facing Court Martial by the Army for his mindless murder and torture of Afghan civilians. From the NY Daily News:

Videotapes of his interviews with Army investigators surfaced on Monday, in which Morlock details how he and fellow soldiers Calvin Gibbs and Adam Winfield mercilessly targeted civilians.

In one clip, Morlock describes how they forced an innocent man to obey their commands and stand still while they killed him with a grenade.

“We had this guy by the compound, and so Gibbs, you know, walked him out and set him in place, like ‘Hey, stand here,'” Morlock says on the tape, telling the invesigator they had the man stay “where Gibbs could get behind cover after the grenade went off.”

Watch the chilling description of these war crimes:

Why do I care about this? First off: I could care less what or who Bristol Palin “pals around with” while in Hollywood. I could care less that she’s hanging out with the assumed innocent sister of an accused murderer and torturer. I do care that Bristol Palin is the daughter of Sarah Palin, the half-term, half-witted Tea Party darling and aspiring presidential candidate in 2012.

The same Sarah Palin, who, time and time again, has pulled out the ‘GUILT BY ASSOCIATION’ tag, accused our sitting President of “associating with terrorists” and saying:

“Our opponent though, is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect that he’s palling around with terrorists who would target their own country.”

The truth is: Sarah Palin and her husband have ties to the Alaska Independence Party, which supports Alaska’s independence from the United States. She espouses everything Teabaggers want to hear, abstinenance, God and Country, homophobia, and will not hesitate to call anyone she opposes a traitor, or worse…

She’s a hypocrite in every way, shape and form.

IS SARAH PALIN GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION? IS BRISTOL?

Super Hypocrisy

I guess the whole world’s waiting to see the Super Bowl ad sponsored by the Right Wing-Conservative-Political-Hate-Group-Disguised-As-A-Religious-Entity Focus on Family. Apparently the ad will document the decision ex-Florida Gator Tim Tebow’s mother Pam made to not have an abortion after contracting an illness while pregnant with him.

Resulting in what I’m sure some right wing Christian zealot bible-thumping idiots consider the…

Second Coming of Christ

I really don’t care that Focus on Family runs this ad…although I find it amusing that over a thousand employees of the organization lost their jobs in order to pay for it.

Nor do I care that the thousands of young, impressionable, and stupid Christian teenage girls and young women watching the ad will entertain the thought of putting their own life in danger when faced with pregnancy complications in the future…

Because Focus on Family tells them they might be carrying the next Tim Tebow!

What I do find quite silly is the reasoning CBS is using to run the ad. Historically known for not airing controversial commercials during the Super Bowl, CBS had the following comment to make:

“We have for some time moderated our approach to advocacy submissions after it became apparent that our stance did not reflect public sentiment or industry norms,” said spokesman Dana McClintock. “In fact, most media outlets have accepted advocacy ads for some time.”

Yet, CBS has refused to air the following commercial during this year’s Super Bowl:

Ok. Sure. It might portray a stereotype of a certain subculture of gay life. Is that a reason to not air the ad? Nope.

How about this commercial? Also refused by CBS?

Even less inoffensive.

Unless, of course, you’re a homophobic bigot afraid of seeing two guys kinda-sorta make out!

The End of The Line: Permitting Hate in the Military

Allan Schindler

Joseph Rocha

Kyle Lawson

Barry Winchell

August Provost

Who are the people named above? They all share something in common. They were all in the military. They were all reportedly gay. They were all murdered, severely injured or faced humiliation and torture at the hands of their superiors.

Their families are facing the shame of (or currently are, in the case of August Provost) the military preventing and/or denying an open investigation into their murders and/or assaults.

In the words of Joseph Rocha, who survived his attacks and described them in an article in the Washington Post:

rochaI can’t say for certain when the abuse started or when it stopped. Now, several years removed from those days in Bahrain, it blends together in my mind as a 28-month nightmare.

Once, the abuse was an all-day event; a training scenario turned into an excuse to humiliate me. Normally we ran the dogs through practice situations — an earthquake, a bomb or a fight — that we might encounter in our work. That day, in a classroom at an American school in Bahrain, with posters of the Founding Fathers lining the walls, the scenario happened to be me. I was the decoy, and I had to do just what Chief Petty Officer Michael Toussaint ordered.

In one corner of the classroom was a long sofa, turned away from the door. When you walked into the room, it appeared that one man was sitting on it, alone. But I was there too — the chief had decided that I would be down on my hands and knees, simulating oral sex. A kennel support staff member and I were supposed to pretend that we were in our bedroom and that the dogs were catching us having sex. Over and over, with each of the 32 dogs, I was forced to enact this scenario.

Lawson, in the interview with the Arizona Star, tells of having to sleep in fear on a cot after having his nose broken during an attack by a fellow soldier because he was rumored to be gay. His attacker went unpunished.

Why is this happening? The Servicemembers Legal Defense Network (SLDN) reports that last year alone over 900 cases of hate crimes against gays (in the form of verbal and physical assault) in the military occurred.

This past Wednesday, President Obama made history:

Yet, in signing this historic legislation, the President has further perpetuated the shame of homophobia in the military.

Today, the only group of people NOT PROTECTED against hate are our gays in the military. These men and women, guardians of our nation, are at the end of the line when it comes to protection for hate. Why?

It’s time to immediately suspend DADT, pending legislative action in Congress. Please contact the President HERE to request his immediate action.

Army Secretary: End DADT

danchoi

Lt Dan Choi: American Hero

I guess support for ending the archaic DADT can’t get much higher than this, in which the Secretary of the Army, former Republican Senator John McHugh states he Army is ready for the repeal of DADT:

SANTA BARBARA, CA, October 26, 2009 – The Secretary of the Army, John McHugh, indicated this weekend that the Army is prepared to lift the ban on openly gay service if the Commander-in-Chief and the Congress decide to end the “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy, a prospect that has gathered steam in recent weeks. McHugh, formerly a Republican congressman from the conservative 23rd district of New York, is the highest official inside the Pentagon to express such support. He told the Army Times on Sunday that there was no reason to fear that major difficulties would result from lifting the ban, and that he would help implement the policy change when the time comes. “The Army has a big history of taking on similar issues,” he said, with “predictions of doom and gloom that did not play out.” He also suggested that repeal may come in phases, with early action involving, for example, allowing open gays to serve in some occupations and not others.

It’s good to see even the leader of the Army supporting the repeal, along with Gen. Colin Powell and over 100 retired Admirals and Generals. With historic hearings of the topic finally scheduled in Congress, and with widespread congressional and public support for the repeal of DADT, it’s time for action.

Senator Kristen Gillibrand, leader of the efforts in Congress along with Rep. Patrick Murphy, have secured over 180 co-sponsors of a bill to repeal DADT, including leaders of Congress. From Senator Gillibrand:

Since 1994, almost 13,000 gay servicemen and women have been discharged from the military based not on their performance but on their sexual orientation. In 2009 alone, we’ve had more than 400 of our brave men and women leave the military under Don’t Ask Don’t Tell. This is simply unacceptable. It is time to repeal this outdated and immoral policy once and for all and end the ban on gays and lesbians serving openly and honestly in our armed forces.

To that end, I’ve secured the commitment from Senator Carl Levin, Chair of the Armed Services Committee, to hold the first hearing on the policy since it began 16 years ago. Chairman Levin expects to hold the hearing soon and it’s my hope that it will be instrumental in demonstrating the level of support that exists for repeal not only throughout the country — where polls consistently indicate that solid majorities oppose the policy — but within the military itself.

Tomorrow, the President will sign the Hate Crimes Bill into law.

Unfortunately, the protections provided to gay victims of hate do not transfer to gays in the military as long as DADT exists.

Let’s hope that in the next few months we’ll see additional freedoms provided to our gay brothers and sisters in the military.

The Boys Who Cried Wolf

I’m no fan of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the illegally elected President of Iran, suppressor of free speech, and hater of Jews. But…

I’m also not a fan of the neocon right wing kooks like ekg’s friend LilMike over at The VSJ and others who distribute mass disinformation with the intent of stirring the pot. Over the past few months, actually years, this has been the Republican modus operandi – lie when all else fails.

This tactic has, in fact, worked well for the neocon Republican crowd that they’ve been using it in the current debate over health care. But that’s another story…

What I’d like to dismiss today is the recent internet furor regarding claims that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is Jewish. Using another well-worn tactic of the neocon far right as taught to them by the neocon Zionist far right of Israel the answer is simple: Claim your opponent is a self-hating Jew.

In the case of Ahmadinejad this might be effective if, in fact, he is Jewish.

But he’s not. Really, he’s not Jewish!

And the investigation into this silly claim is hilarious although not uncommon given LilMike’s propensity for using scurrilous sources when making his unfounded claims.

In the case of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the source of this wild claim is a blog. Yes, a blog. Written by Mehdi Khazali in January. Who is Mehdi Khazali? He’s the son of a prominent Iranian political ally of Ahmadinejad who’s been so vocal in his hate of Ahmadinejad that his father’s disowned him. He’s claimed hero status lately as a result of his arrest during the recent political elections in Iran for (rightfully) backing Mir Hossein Mousavi and has become a frequent source to the right wing neocon Jewish Zionist internet paper, Arutz Sheva.

See where I’m going with this?

The Path to Disinformation – Neocon Style:

1. Find a blog supporting your position.

2. Publish the unsubstantiated accusations made in the blog on Radio Free Europe and Arutz Sheva; throwing it against the wall hoping it’ll stick.

3. If that doesn’t get picked up by the MSM, wait a few months and try again, this time with an article in The Telegraph, and a repeat of the original item by Arutz Sheva, albeit with a new date.

4. Stir the pot again, throw it against the wall again, and see what sticks.

Thus the problem I, and the rest of the reasonable people in this world, see:

If you cry “WOLF!” too often, how do you suspect us to believe you when the wolf actually shows upabr1163l

The UnAmericans

How this world has changed. Earlier this year we elected a man as President. Weracism elected a man who spoke eloquently of change, hope, and equality. A man who singlehandedly regained the respect of this country in the eyes of our fellow nations. A man who showed the youth of our country that yes, anyone can become President.

Even a black man.

Before Barack Obama took office, even during the election last year, a disturbing faction of our population started emerging. People who didn’t want the new President to succeed. People who wanted him to fail in his visions to renew our country and leave behind the eight years of shame of the previous administration. People who placed one thing above everything else – their racist hate.

The protestations are humorous: “No. It’s not about hate!” Bullshit. It’s all about hate. It’s all about racist hate coming from the right wing and the fools who listen to the sound bytes of the Becks, Limbaughs, Coulters, Drudges, and others whose only purpose is to spread an agenda of racist hate.

Someone I know…let’s call him Josh, is a brilliant example of such a lemming. Unable to construct a thought of his own (unless he’s wishing Death by AIDS upon someone), his usual reply to the silly right wing claim usually starts with “I heard on the radio…”. And he’s not the only one.

Across the country, thousands of like-minded (hah! That’s an oxymoron!) neanderthal, racist, intellectually-challenged souls are repeating the same claims. Believing every word they get by listening to the radio, reading chain e-mails sent by their fellow racists, thriving in political blogs written by their equally neanderthal, racist, intellectually-challenged writers, the racist haters continue to direct their poison towards the President – only because he’s a black man.

Case in point: Chicago. President Obama’s home town. Finalist for the 2016 Olympics. Yet…because Chicago’s the home of our President, the right wing haters like Josh and others, didn’t want Chicago to get the Olympics.

Forget the HUGE economic boom the Olympics would foist upon the economy of Illinois! Forget the influx of visitors to our country spreading peace and competition among our fellow man!

Forget it! Goddamit, they say, if Obama wants the Olympics then we don’t!

Today, those racist, neanderthal, intellectually-challenged trolls are celebrating. Not because one of our states will be hosting the Olympics.

Because they won’t!

How Un-American!

And…look who also supported the Chicago Olympic bid!

They say that the Olympics will come to Chicago if we’re fortunate enough to be selected, but really it’s coming to America, and I can’t think of a better city to represent the United States than Chicago.

This is a well thought out venue. There will be — the athletes will be taken care of. People who will be coming from around the world will find this good city has got fantastic accommodations, great restaurants. It will be safe.

And so I — this country supports your bid, strongly. And our hope is that the judges will take a good look at Chicago and select Chicago for the 2016 Olympics.

Patriotic Unity or Racist Hate? – Another Look

Following my recent post about Glenn Beck’s 9/12 March in Washington comes this revelation: Marching alongside the lily white protesters at the Capital was a fringe group so vile in their message one must be amazed at the positive reception they received from their fellow visitors…

Here’s Rachel Maddow:

lol…I’m shocked, amused, and not at all surprised! One of the commenters to my previous post, someone who identified himself as “Ohandy1” took me to issue for calling the protesters in Washington “idiots”. I stand corrected. No idiot would ever fall for, least of all march along arm-in-arm with,  the Billionaires for Wealthcare.  Only stupid idiots would!

Mr. Ohandy1 also took me to task over the number of people attending the event. Citing the ever-reliable Michele Malkin as his source, he insisted two million (stupid idiots) attended the march this past weekend! He even alluded to an even greater number of three million were marching…quote:

The estimates, not misquoted, place the numbers up to 2mil. (I’ve heard numbers over 3 but not many trying to stand by that) Near as I can tell this could make this the LARGEST event EVER of its kind. Even larger than the inoguration. Even the lower estimates make it a notable event larger than the “million man march” which reached about 800,000 according to the most generous estimates.

Yeah, right.  Here’s a picture of President Obama’s inauguration:

And…here’s a picture (from Fox News) of the 9/12 Stupid Idiot March from last weekend…
