Nobody Said They Were Smart!

We all know people who worship Glenn Beck probably aren’t the smartest around. When I read this story I just had to giggle…

From the WFTV-Ch 9:

Dozens of people who parked at the University of Central Florida for an event say they were set up after their cars were towed. They said event parking signs directed them to a lot, but more than 50 cars in that lot were towed. People said those signs and their cars were gone when they got back. A viewer contacted WFTV after his car was towed Saturday, along with 52 others. All of them were in line to recover their cars at an impound lot and all of them attended the Glenn Beck show at UCF. The people parked in a Kappa Sigma lot. Mike Vedder thinks they were set up. He doesn’t know if it was a dislike of the conservative commentator or money. “Maybe the have a deal with the tow truck company or maybe they got kickbacks under the table,” Vedder said. They all said an event parking sign clearly directed them into the lot. Students at the fraternity wouldn’t comment, but WFTV caught up with the owner of Orange County Towing and Recovery, Ronald Hulbert. “I have a lot at stake, a lot invested. I’m not going to lose it over a $125 tow, times 53, times 53, it was a good day,” Ronald Hulbert said. Hulbert admits he’s never towed that many cars in one day before; he said it took him at least eight hours to tow all the cars. Each driver had to pay cash, netting him more than $6,600. Dozens of people who parked at the University of Central Florida for an event say they were set up after their cars were towed. I wonder if the tow company accepted GOLD as payment?

The Tea Baggers New Hero?

I guess you could say it’s been leading up to this…Last year, following the election of Barack Obama as President and a prominent spot on the Drudge Report, Fox News, a mention on Chuck Baldwin’s blog, a shout out on Glenn Beck, and a mention by Pat Buchanan, as well as being the subject of articles in the Wall Street Journal and New York Post, the newest darling of the crazy right wing loon Tea Party circuit isn’t Sarah Palin, although I’m sure she can wave at him from her front porch.

It’s the former Soviet Union’s KGB-honcho-turned-Russian-talk-radio-show-host Igor Panarin, and the right wing has once again became enthralled with his latest doomsday predictions. n152753096529_5311

Panarin visited the United States last week. Specifically, he visited Texas, land of the secessionist Governor Perry and more right wing tea party kooks than you can shake a stick at. At an event hosted by the Houston Tea Party Patriots, Panarin repeated his predictions of the downfall of the United States thanks to lax immigration laws and so-called impure moral standards.

Of course this got the Tea Baggers all excited with spectulation! Not the type to let common sense take over, said spectulation ran rampant over the map Panarin presented describing the future look of our country:

Before you pass all this off as the craziness of another loon, read what the so-called respectable Wall Street Journal said:

“Prof. Panarin, 50 years old, is not a fringe figure. A former KGB analyst, he is dean of the Russian Foreign Ministry’s academy for future diplomats. He is invited to Kremlin receptions, lectures students, publishes books, and appears in the media as an expert on U.S.-Russian relations.”

Huh. To think that just a little less than a year ago if a Democrat had paid this much attention to a Russian they’d be run out of town on a rail, declared unpatriotic, a traitor, and the subject of every single news story on Fox!

But then…if  Fox News and the WSJ say’s he’s not a kook, who are we to argue?

Patriotic Unity or Racist Hate? – Another Look

Following my recent post about Glenn Beck’s 9/12 March in Washington comes this revelation: Marching alongside the lily white protesters at the Capital was a fringe group so vile in their message one must be amazed at the positive reception they received from their fellow visitors…

Here’s Rachel Maddow:

lol…I’m shocked, amused, and not at all surprised! One of the commenters to my previous post, someone who identified himself as “Ohandy1” took me to issue for calling the protesters in Washington “idiots”. I stand corrected. No idiot would ever fall for, least of all march along arm-in-arm with,  the Billionaires for Wealthcare.  Only stupid idiots would!

Mr. Ohandy1 also took me to task over the number of people attending the event. Citing the ever-reliable Michele Malkin as his source, he insisted two million (stupid idiots) attended the march this past weekend! He even alluded to an even greater number of three million were marching…quote:

The estimates, not misquoted, place the numbers up to 2mil. (I’ve heard numbers over 3 but not many trying to stand by that) Near as I can tell this could make this the LARGEST event EVER of its kind. Even larger than the inoguration. Even the lower estimates make it a notable event larger than the “million man march” which reached about 800,000 according to the most generous estimates.

Yeah, right.  Here’s a picture of President Obama’s inauguration:

And…here’s a picture (from Fox News) of the 9/12 Stupid Idiot March from last weekend…

I’ll let my readers decide which had the most people.

Iran Update

Update: 4:51pm

Dear Rep. Pete Hoekstra: Please don’t insult the Iranian people with your tweets:

“Iranian twitter activity similar to what we did in House last year when Republicans were shut down in the House.”

Nearly a million people showed up in the Imam Khomeini Square of Tehran yesterday in support of the civil war in Iran. Here’s a photo essay of this historic event. As I said in my original blog post, this is history in the making.

I’d like to add a few more things to my original comments, and those since. It’s obvious the United States is taking the right stance on this issue and has the support of expatriate Iranian groups, the UN, and other countries. What is missing is the support of neocon members of the Republican Party who feel President Obama should interfere with a political matter in Iran.

Sorry. This is the last thing to do. What happened the last time the US became politically involved in Iran? We don’t need that again.

That said, the US should remain cognizant of the human rights of the Iranian people and keep a keen eye on the blatant disregard of the fraudulent government over there for said human rights.

Remember again my comment in my original post:

The intelligencia of Iran, along with the educators and entrepeneurs and the university students of the country, will not let this sham go unnoticed. Why is this happening? Think back twenty-nine years ago to the year 1980 to the climate in the former USSR and twenty-three years or so to the year 1986 in Vietnam. Commercialization and the market economies of the Soviet Union and Vietnam did what the French, Americans, and other countries couldn’t do. Bring down communism.

This, my friends, is what is going on now in Iran. The people of Iran are no different than you or I. The people of Iran want change and change will happen. Unfortunately, I suspect there will be bloodshed; but I’m confident the people with overcome.

Prior to making that statement, I pointed out that the people of the Soviet Union and the people of Vietnam also managed to do what no other government was able to do…reform their own government.

Yesterday, I found the most incredulous statement through google…apparently by someone who must be a big fan of Matt Drudge and Glenn Beck. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if the following words were taken from one of their websites:

This may or may not be the modern day Tiananmen square.

Without the assistance of outside power, the people of Iran will not be able to stop the government.

I’ve seen comparisons to Tiananmen Square  all over by right wing hacks. But didn’t the repression at Tiananmen Square actually produce change in China? Aren’t the people of China living a better life in a more market-based economy? Much like the people of the Soviet Union and Vietnam before them?

Above all, didn’t that change come from not outside the countries, but from within? From the people?

Yes.

May I point out three words to those who stupidly think the people of Iran cannot accomplish change in their government?
